Amusement in the middle of the City Centre

Hey there,

Tivoli is apparently one of the oldest amusement park in the world. It is located in the centre of the city of Copenhagen and is must go for any tourists that visit Copenhagen. We drove by the bright park in our Uber while driving to our rental apartment, the park was closed because it was so early, but the empty roller coster and all the lights and decoration ready to celebrate Halloween, attracted us. We made plans for Sunday to spend the day there. Even when you're far from the park, on the top of a tower overhanging the beauty of Copenhagen, you can see the madness coming from afar from Tivoli.

At Tivoli, they take Halloween very seriously, every inch of the park is dressed for the occasion. We got there at 4 pm, and spent the rest of the day there, leaving at 9:30pm. For info, the park opens at 10 or 11 am and closes at 11pm or 12am, depending on the day. Entrance isn't free, you can get a single ticket for entrance, and pay to go in the rides you want to go in, or you can get a ticket that will work for both the entrance and the rides. We didn't want to go in the rides, at least, not all of them, so we got our tickets to enter the park, and then pick tickets for the two rides we wanted to go in. Note that the number of tickets you'll need for a ride, depends on the type of ride or roller coster. If you want to go let's say, a medium sized roller coster, less scary but still fun with all the ups and down, you'll have to give away two tickets per person. We bought 8 tickets, meaning we could go into 2 medium roller coster. Once you enter the park, there's not turning back... aka if you want to leave for a few minutes and then come back, you'll have to pay 45DKK to come back in, which is not that bad but still...

The park is not big but it's still hard to find your way around for the first time. It's overwhelming. And because it's one of the must-seen places in Copenhagen, it was crowded, but not only by tourists, also by locals coming with their children to have some fun. As I said we went on two rides: The Roller Coster, which can be assimilated to the Thunder Mountain Ride at Disneyland. The ride is obviously old, so there's a guy who actually controls the car you're in with 6 other people. Yes you read correctly, there's a man standing in the front of the car, who makes sure the car stays on track and doesn't go flying somewhere. So while you're sitting in your seat, held by a protection bar, going up and down the roller coster, and flying for your seats in the downs, there's a guy calmly standing bright and tall and waving at people!

The rides there are the sickest, biggest and craziest I have ever seen. There were no way I was going in most of them, because most of them were millions of feet away from the ground, or were driving faster than a train going from Paris to London. We chose two rides, with mostly kids in it... And were more terrified than them. Anyway, once we were done with all the fun and scare, we went on a hunt to find a place to eat. However, as in any other amusement park in the world, restaurants are crazy expensive, plus the food isn't so great most of the time.... We did find a great burger place, with a reasonable menu, so we sat there, and the burgers were so good, one of the best burgers I have ever had.

Once dinner was done, we found our way out of the restaurant and walked around the park. Even if you're not a big fan of huge rides, you can still have so fun, there's a ton of activities, smaller rides and fun games to do. Even watching other people screaming their heart out while going way up in the sky was actually fun. There're really some rides that make you think that the person who invented the ride, had a thing against people. I'm kidding. But some rides are so scary, I couldn't even imagine going in. In fact, some of the scariest rides were empty, and most of the time, only 3 or 4 people were sitting in it. We still had a lot of fun, and Tivoli will stay one of the most memorable thing we'd done in Copenhagen.

On our way to the bus, we realized we've lost the umbrella we just had bought on the same day. It was starting to rain and because the euphoria hasn't washed away just yet, we weren't too depressed about it. Did you know that the most lost item in life is the umbrella? We were still a little bumped about it because when we bought it we decided that we were going to leave it in the apartment for future visitors or for the owners of the place. People were so nice in Copenhagen, we wanted to thank them back by giving away the umbrella. We still managed to go back in the park, without paying any cents, but simply explaining our issue, and as I said, people are so nice, the security guard didn't ask us anything. When we reached to the restaurant, with no hopes of finding the umbrella, it was waiting for us on the side, one of the waiter found it and kindly stored it for us to come back and get it.

Copenhagen is the kind of city that gives you faith and hope in people's kindness. And Tivoli is the kind of park that makes you think that Disneyland Paris needs to upgrade its game.

Fall in Love in Copenhagen

Hey there,

A few weeks ago, my boyfriend and I decided it was time for us to take some time away from France. We needed some vacation, just the two of us, and decided to head to Copenhagen for a few days. We've never been to Denmark, but I've personally always felt attracted to Northern Europe countries. After much consideration, AirBnb and flight were booked, and weeks later, we were on a plane, at 7 am, heading to Denmark. This was our first real getaway just the two of us, and I must say I was really scared that we were going to kill each other after 4 days, but don't worry, we're good and still very much in love.

Obviously, Copenhagen is heaven for beginners in Photography, like me. I had lots of fun photographing literally every corner of each street, and every leaf of each tree in parks etc. So much that, evidently, I cannot sum up a 4 days trip into one post. So, as usual, because I'm not ready just yet to let go of my lovely weekend to Denmark, I have planned different posts and lots of goodies for you and for me to read when I'm bored. In this post, I will go through our first two days in the lovely city of Copenhagen, and as you can maybe tell from the pictures, those were not too glorious... I'll explain!

Waking up to catch our 7am flight hurt really bad. We woke up at 4:30am, got to the airport at 5am, ready to start an argument with our lovely airplane company, but I won't get into that, because you can read all about it on my Twitter page. When you're heading to Copenhagen, you don't really care how early you wake up because you know it totally will worth it, and it did. However, October being October, and Fall being Fall, we couldn't expect a bright hot and sunny day, especially in Denmark. But still, we were not quite prepared for the cold to hit us like that, nor the rain... Because yes... it was freezing cold, and annoyingly rainy.

But who cares about the rain and cold air? It's Copenhagen! And we were only there for a few days, so we hit the road. Our Airbnb was located in Frederiksberg, not too far from the city centre of Copenhagen. We only had a 20 minutes bus ride to Copenhagen. Moreover, our apartment was so lovely, we couldn't thank Isabell and Jonas enough for letting us stay in their home. It was truly perfection. We found our way to the historical centre, walked and enjoyed the little streets. However, the rain really surprised us, and as I said we weren't prepared for that. After an emotional breakdown, thinking this was the worst first vacation ever, we put ourselves together, stopped for some much needed hot chocolates, and hit the road again.

We had a little program prepared just for us, and even though it was pretty much jeopardized by the weather, we still managed to see everything we wanted to see. After, our walk through the historical centre, we headed toward the Nyhavn neighborhood and it was everything we pictured, only... under gloomy weather. The colors were still pretty though, all the pastels and the bright red bricks. Perfection. We then walk by the waterside, and find our way toward the Royal Palace, official winter residence or the Denmark Royalty. How fancy. I must say, it was very impressive. The architecture is breath taking, especially since we were pretty much the only tourists in town. It felt like we had the whole city just for ourselves.

Just outside the Royal Palace, there's a cathedral that a lovely Instagram user from Sweden, recommended. It's called the Marble Cathedral, and sadly enough the pictures don't do it justice at all. The inside is amazing, and I have no words to describe the beauty of this historical monument.

As the rain was calming down, we headed to park, where Fall has definitely took its toll. Autumn has never been so well represented. The colors in the trees, the leaves falling down, and the smell of rain on the grass... It was lovely. The park surrounds the Citadel or Kastellet, former star fortresses of Norther Europe, and one of the most preserved one. Very impressive with all the red buildings, the Denmark flag floating above us, and the mill that felt like it was coming out of a fairytale book. After all, it is the city of Hans Andersen. Outside the Citadel, if you keep walking, you'll quickly find your way to the waterside, and the Little Mermaid statue, like we did. The statue is obviously based on the Hans Andersen fairytale, and was made by Edvard Eriksen.

Once our walk through the Citadel was done, and after a stop by the waterside, we headed back to the historical centre for dinner. Our tiredness hit us once we sit down, so we ended the day when dinner was done. On the second day, we had hopes the sun was going to show up. Hopes were quickly washed away after breakfast, when we had to buy an umbrella... However, we didn't let rain affect us, and we kept on going, hiding under our big umbrella. We started the day at the Round Tower or Rundertarn, former astronomical observatory. We walked to the very top, a 5 minutes very hard climb to the top actually. In fact, there's no stairs to get to the top, which is not so bad, because I cannot imagine walking in stairs for 5 minutes. My legs were already killing me, and I felt like fainting when I got the top. Obviously because of the breath taking view on Copenhagen.

From there, you can see everything, for the red bricks building, to the Tivoli park and the bridge that disappears into the sea and links Sweden to Denmark. You're on the top of the world, and it was hard to get back down, not only because the view is amazing, but also because, the way up was so steep and hard, we could wait for the way down. Especially since my shoes were note quite the most appropriate shoes to climb in, so slippery... I almost did the way out on my butt. They did save me from the cold to hit my feet. So good point for that.

When the way down was achieved, rain was crazy, so we stopped at some coffeeshop for some hot chocolates. A daily habit for us in Copenhagen. By the time we sit down, and ordered, rain has stopped, so we were ready to hit the road. We walked toward the Botanical Garden, and lost track of time while getting lost in the beauty of the park. I believe Fall is definitely the right time to visit the Botanical Garden, even though all the flowers are not out, the colors are still amazingly pretty. We slowly found our way to the Greenhouse, house of palm trees and other treasures. However... the house closes at 3 pm and it was 3:10pm... sadly, we couldn't go in, so we delayed our visit to another day, left the garden and walk toward the Tivoli Park, which I will share pictures of, in another post!

Acceptance

Hey there,

As a lot of people in this world, I have lots of insecurities. A huge part of my insecurities is my body. The truth is I've never considered myself pretty, I never thought I was pretty and I had, and still have, a really hard time accepting compliments from anyone. At school, I was never the pretty kid, I was the nerd one, the "intellectual" one, the one that spent her recess at the school library. People would make fun of me because I was really into fashion but this passion didn't really translate into my wardrobe for awhile.

I've always been a shy person, really introvert, really anxious, really timid, I would not go talk to people on my own, and as a kid, I would pretty much hide behind my mom at any social occasions. I cared, and still do, a lot about what other people might think of me, and I thought that if I played "Plain Jane", things would go smoothly for me. Funny enough, it was quite the opposite. From 6th to 8th grade, people would make fun of the way I dressed, they would compare my curly hair to a poodle's hair, and they would make fun of me because I was wearing glasses and braces.

I was frequently compared to Ugly Betty. In fact, at that time a german show was on TV, basically the german version of Ugly Betty, and the main character on the show was named Lisa. People would sing the theme show to me on the hallways replacing the name Lisa, by Elsa. When I finally decided to put myself together, and changed the way I dressed, it didn't go unnoticed. People would make fun of me because I was changing, and trying to be the "cool kid". At the same time I started developing an eating disorder, that I still kind of cary. Not a drastic one, not a really dangerous one, but still unhealthy, and bad. I just have really bad eating habits, and at that time, I would frequently skip a meal or eat less because I was terrified of gaining weights, and it does still happen.

Things got worse in high school. I was fully aware of the fact that I wasn't the pretty one, and I was hanging out with people that I kept comparing myself to. So I changed my style, started wearing only small heeled boots, wearing makeup, started hanging out with more people, and I didn't do so great at school. I was really self conscious. Things escalated pretty quickly when I got into my first serious relationship. As I said, I never felt like I was pretty, and nobody would tell me I was pretty, objectively I would say. People would sometimes made fun of my figure and I didn't react well to it. I stayed in this relationship for 6 months, and was treated like nothing but crap. This guy I was with, never made me felt pretty, for the most part, he made me feel very much insecure.

Getting into business school, things were not pretty at first. I ended up in an environment with very trendy and pretty girls, all very skinny, so the comparison got worst, and my eating habits got worst, because I'm a student and my schedule do not really allow me to have a proper healthy life. When I was in Dublin, I was so scared I was going to gain weights, I worked out, and had very bad eating habits. I was aware of it, I knew it was bad, I still do, but I didn't have the strengths to change it, and to be honest I still don't.

I'm lucky enough to be in an amazing relationship now, with a man who treats me the way every girl should be treated, and shows me respect and love. He helped me a lot accepting myself, but I still have some efforts to do. He supports me, but there's something missing for me to take the extra step to say "okay this is what I need to do now" or "I'm happy with the way I am". However, I'm now accepting myself and my insecurities. I understood that there are some features you can't change, like your hips for example. I'm very self conscious about my hips, but no matter how much I worked out, they won't disappear. I also accepted the fact that everybody's different, and I only live once, so I better be happy about my life.

My insecurities come with my anxiety, and I can choose to ignore them, but I can also choose to be aware of them and accept them. Just like anxiety, insecurities don't go away like that, you can fight them all you want, they might show up at your door some other time. I chose to be fully aware of my insecurities, and not let them grow into me. I still compare myself to people, but I accepted the fact that my body is my body and it is unique, just like anybody's. I still have bad eating habits, but I'm working on it.

The reason I'm writing about this particular subject is because the last time I went shopping, I came across this body con dress from Mango. I don't usually go for this style, mainly because I'm so insecure about my hips. But the last time I went shopping, I thought "Why not?", I spent 5 minutes looking at myself in the mirror, and at first I couldn't even look at my reflection, but I eventually did. At the end of the day it's about acceptance, and accepting that some things won't go away just like that, and it's about accepting who you really are. I thought this dress will help me, and it did in some way. Although I'm still not very confortable with my figures, I'm learning, and someday I'll be there.

I hope you liked this post. I apologize for how long this is, but it's a very personal post and I felt I needed to talk about this personal matter.
